Berlin's U-Bahn: Three Lines Close for Major Repairs in 2026
Berlin's U-Bahn system is set for significant renovations, with three lines closing simultaneously from early 2026. The closure is due to necessary repairs at the Nollendorfplatz U-Bahn station, where four lines converge.
The damage, located at two points in the intermediate ceiling, has prompted the closure of U1, U3, and U4 lines. Notably, U2, which runs above ground, will not be affected. The construction work is part of the BVG's modernization plan and not due to an immediate threat.
During the renovation, U1 will operate between Wittenbergplatz and Uhlandstraße, and between Gleisdreieck and Warschauer Straße until April 2025. U3 will run only between Krumme Lanke and Spichernstraße. U4 service will be completely suspended during this period. Additionally, a major extension construction for U3 to Mexikoplatz is planned to start in September 2026. No other specific renovation measures for U1 and U4 are detailed beyond these service adjustments.
A section of the track near Nollendorfplatz U-Bahn station is expected to close for about four months starting in January 2026. The renovations aim to improve the infrastructure and ensure the safety and reliability of the U-Bahn system.
