Berlin's U6 subway upgrades shut down key roads until 2028

Major construction work on Berlin's U6 subway line has started in the Mitte district. The project will bring long-term traffic changes, including the full closure of a key stretch of Chausseestraße for several years.

The affected section of Chausseestraße, between Zinnowitzer Straße and Habersaathstraße heading towards Müllerstraße, will remain shut until around 2028. Nearby Habersaathstraße will also be closed to traffic during this period. The road, a vital north-south route, will be off-limits to both vehicles and cyclists.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and take alternative routes to reduce congestion. Public transport is being promoted as the best way to navigate the disruptions. Motorists should expect altered traffic flows, lengthy detours and increased journey times.

No prior construction or renovation work related to the U6 line has been recorded on this section of Chausseestraße in recent years.

The closures will remain in place until approximately 2028, affecting daily travel for residents and commuters. Authorities continue to recommend public transport as the most reliable option while the subway upgrades progress.
