Berlin’s Whistleblower Platform Now Covers Extremism, Fraud, and Environmental Crimes

Berlin Police have expanded their anonymous whistleblower platform to cover a wider range of criminal activities. The system, originally launched in 2015 for corruption reports, now accepts tips on extremism, environmental crimes, food fraud, and economic offences. Users can submit information completely anonymously via a secure online portal.

The platform first went live in 2015 under the name Anonymous Corruption Reporting Office. At the time, it focused solely on corruption cases. Over the years, it has received nearly 3,900 anonymous submissions.

Now, the Berlin Police Department has broadened its scope. The updated system, accessible at hinweisgebersystem.lka-berlin.de, allows reports on radical or extremist activities, environmental violations, food fraud, and economic crimes such as money laundering and health insurance fraud. The service also accepts general tips on other suspicious observations. Anonymity remains a key feature. The system uses a certified third-party provider to ensure users cannot be traced. Whistleblowers can create a virtual mailbox on the Berlin Police website for secure two-way communication. However, the platform does not operate under the Whistleblower Protection Act. Hamburg’s Dezernat Interne Ermittlungen has made a similar move. Their own BKMS® system now covers the same expanded categories, including corruption, extremism, and environmental offences.

The upgraded system provides a wider channel for reporting serious crimes while maintaining full anonymity. Since its launch, the platform has processed thousands of tips, with authorities encouraging further use. The Berlin Police website provides direct access for anyone wishing to submit information securely.
