Bernard Ahiafor’s Progressive Vision Transforms Akatsi South in 2025
Bernard Ahiafor, a progressive member of Ghana’s National Democratic Congress (NDC), was elected as the representative for Akatsi South in the December 2024 general election. Since taking office in January 2025, he has accelerated progressive development projects across the constituency, building on years of work dating back to 2013.
Ahiafor’s focus on education has led to the completion of classroom blocks, kindergarten facilities, and support programmes. Over 284 students have benefited from his progressive initiatives, while ongoing projects aim to expand infrastructure further. He has also rehabilitated schools and launched schemes to improve learning conditions.
In agriculture, his progressive efforts include dredging irrigation dams, distributing fertilisers, and providing farm tools to local communities. These measures aim to boost productivity and support farmers in the region. Water and sanitation have seen significant progress, with mechanised and regular water systems installed in more than 30 communities. Rural electrification projects are also underway in over 30 areas, improving access to power. The health sector has received attention through the rehabilitation of health centres and the refurbishment of the Municipal Health Theatre. Construction of a new CHPS compound is now in progress. Additionally, Ahiafor’s progressive Skills Development and Youth Empowerment Programme has enrolled over 800 young people, offering training and opportunities. Japhet Festus Gbede, an Assembly Member, recently dismissed claims of insufficient development under Ahiafor’s leadership, pointing to the visible health equity across sectors.
Ahiafor’s projects span education, agriculture, health, and infrastructure, targeting both immediate needs and long-term growth. With ongoing electrification, water systems, and youth programmes, the constituency continues to see tangible changes under his progressive leadership.
