Bern’s Social Democrats launch bold 2026 election campaign on wages and climate
The Social Democratic Party (SP) in the Canton of Bern has kicked off its campaign for next spring’s elections. The party is centering on three key areas: purchasing power, climate change, and equality. Officials have criticized the current government’s approach to investment and economic planning.
The SP’s election platform calls for stronger policies to boost living standards. Proposals include tax relief, fair wages, lower rents, and a secure state pension system. The party also wants to tackle wage inequality and promote better work-life balance.
On climate change, the SP is pushing for more renewable energy, expanded public transport, and sustainable investments. Officials argue the canton must take greater responsibility for reducing emissions and protecting the environment.
The party has accused the centre-right-led government of mismanaging key projects. According to the SP, poor decisions are risking Bern’s long-term economic stability. Their campaign urges a return to policies that prioritize residents’ needs over short-term gains.
The SP’s campaign will run until the cantonal elections next spring. If successful, their policies could reshape Bern’s approach to wages, housing, and climate action. The party has not yet named its lead candidate for the 2026 vote.
