Bethlehem’s Peace Light Arrives in Freiburg for Advent Ceremony

The peace light from Bethlehem will arrive in Freiburg on December 14, the third Sunday of Advent. A special ceremony, titled A Spark of Courage, will take place at the Ökumenisches Kirchenzentrum Maria Magdalena. The event will be led jointly by representatives of the Evangelical Church in Baden and the Archdiocese of Freiburg.

The peace light is kindled every year in Bethlehem before traveling to Germany via Austria. Since 1993, Scouts have carried the flame across Europe, sharing it with hospitals, nursing homes, churches, and public institutions as a symbol of hope.

The peace light serves as a sign of solidarity and a commitment to peace in times of crisis. After the ceremony, the flame will continue to spread through Baden, carried by volunteers to local institutions and gatherings in countries across the region.
