'Biggest fugitives of India': Lalit Modi and Vijay Mallya mock Indian authorities in a new viral video
A recently shared video of Lalit Modi and Vijay Mallya celebrating in London has caused widespread anger in India. The clip, posted on social media, shows the two men at a high-profile party despite facing serious legal allegations back home. Both have lived abroad for years while avoiding Indian authorities.
The controversial gathering took place on December 16, 2025, at Lalit Modi’s Belgrave Square residence in London. It was a pre-70th birthday party for Vijay Mallya, attended by well-known figures including Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Idris Elba, Manoviraj Khosla, and Jim Rydell. Modi later uploaded a video of the event to his Instagram account, where he and Mallya jokingly referred to themselves as 'India’s biggest fugitives.'
The video quickly drew sharp criticism online. Many users condemned the men’s carefree attitude while Mallya remains embroiled in a long-running extradition battle in the UK. Indian authorities accuse him of defrauding banks of over ₹9,000 crore, charges he continues to contest. Modi, too, has been living outside India for years, evading legal proceedings. His decision to flaunt the party publicly only intensified the backlash, with social media users questioning the timing and tone of the event.
The video has reignited public frustration over the two men’s prolonged absence from India. Mallya’s extradition case remains unresolved, while Modi’s legal status also stays uncertain. The incident has once again highlighted their ability to live freely abroad despite pending allegations at home.
