Bihar Assembly’s digital debut begins with oaths in 4 languages
The 18th Bihar Legislative Assembly began its first session with an oath-taking ceremony led by Pro-tem Speaker Narendra Narayan Yadav. MLAs took their oaths in multiple languages, including Maithili, Urdu, Sanskrit, and English. The session also marked a shift to digital proceedings, with Wi-Fi-enabled tablets installed at every desk for a live election update.
The ceremony started with ministers from the newly formed Cabinet taking their oaths. RJD MLA Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and other legislators followed. A notable moment came when Bihar agriculture minister Ramkripal Yadav embraced Tejashwi Yadav after swearing in, reflecting their personal bond.
Prem Kumar’s election as Speaker was confirmed without opposition, marking a smooth start to the new Assembly. The shift to digital proceedings signals a change in how legislative business will be conducted in Bihar. The session continues with the newly sworn-in members ready to begin their work.
