Bihar Congress rethinks alliances after election defeat and internal rifts
The Bihar Congress has made clear its alliance with the Mahagathbandhan was only for the recent state assembly elections. Party president Rajesh Kumar addressed district leaders in the first meeting since the Congress’s defeat at the polls.
Kumar outlined four key points during the discussion. These included analysing the reasons behind the party’s weak election performance and planning protests against alleged 'vote theft' in New Delhi. The meeting also covered electing a new leader for the legislative party and improving internal coordination ahead of future polls.
A section of leaders pushed for the Congress to leave its partnership with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). They argued the party should contest the next elections alone rather than remaining in the opposition alliance. Kumar, however, stressed the immediate focus would be on rebuilding and strengthening the Congress’s organisational structure across the party city.
The party’s stance marks a shift from its earlier alliance strategy. With the Mahagathbandhan now in question, the Congress aims to regain ground by reorganising its base. Future decisions on partnerships will depend on internal assessments and upcoming political developments.
