Bitkom Launches 'Bitkomat' for NRW Election, Helping Voters Compare Digital Stances

The Bitkom association has introduced the 'Bitkomat', an online tool for the North Rhine-Westphalia state election on May 15, 2022. This tool helps voters compare their digital political preferences with the parties' programs. Seven major parties participated, but the AfD declined to participate.

The Bitkomat, launched for the first time during the federal election in 2021, covers 17 state political topics across five areas. These include education and participation, politics and administration, digital economy and infrastructure, everyday life and digital life, and security and data protection. Bitkom prioritized data protection and data economy in the tool's programming, not storing user positions or collecting results statistics.

The tool surveyed the positions of CDU, SPD, Greens, FDP, and other participating parties. However, the AfD declined to participate. Seven Landesverbände of these parties took part and answered the 17 relevant questions, allowing voters to see how their views align with the parties' stances.

Seven parties have made their digital political preferences clear through the Bitkomat for the NRW state election. The AfD did not participate, so voters interested in their digital political views must look elsewhere. The tool provides a useful resource for informed voting, with a focus on data protection and no storage of user positions.
