Bitkom President Slams Growth Opportunities Act for Ignoring Digitalization
The new Growth Opportunities Act has been met with criticism from Bitkom President Dr. Ralf Wintergerst. He argues that the act does not adequately address digitalization, which he considers the strongest growth engine for German companies.
According to a Bitkom study, 64 percent of German companies feel they are lagging behind in digitalization. Notably, 30 percent are unable to increase their digital investments, and 16 percent are even reducing them. Wintergerst believes the act's requirement for digital technologies to be part of an energy-saving concept is too restrictive.
He proposes a 'super-depreciation' of 175 percent for all digitalization measures, instead of the proposed increase from 20 to 50 percent for SMEs with less than 200,000 euros in profit. Wintergerst also advocates for a principle investment premium for digital technologies and solutions, independent of an energy-saving concept.
The Growth Opportunities Act aims to promote innovations in companies, including better depreciation options and investment premiums. However, Wintergerst criticizes the act for not fulfilling the coalition's digitalization promises and not adequately addressing the digitalization gap in German companies. He argues that the act should focus more on digital technologies and solutions to boost the economy.
