Fake Shops for 'Black Friday' - Consumer Protection Warns - Black Friday 2024 Scam Alert: Fake Shops Surge Ahead of Holiday Sales
Authorities in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have issued a warning about fake online shops ahead of Black Friday 2024. The state government and consumer protection agency are urging shoppers to stay vigilant as complaints about fraudulent retailers continue to climb. Over the past year, the regional consumer protection office received more than 10,000 complaints about fake shops. On average, nearly 30 reports arrive each day. In the first nine months of this year alone, around 8,000 cases were logged. The warnings come as Black Friday approaches, a peak period for online shopping. Shoppers are being reminded to check for proper business details before making purchases. Without due care, the risk of falling victim to fraud remains high, especially with the influx of Black Friday deals.
