BMFSFJ Launches 'Demokratie leben!' Initiative for Youth Civic Engagement
The Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) has launched the 'Demokratie leben!' initiative, with the first project being a youth platform in collaboration with the city's Commissioner for Children and Youth. This program aims to foster civic engagement and democratic values.
At the heart of this initiative are Local Partnerships for Democracy, such as the one established in Brandenburg an der Havel. These partnerships serve as networks for dialogue, collaboration, and funding of local projects that promote democratic education, participation, diversity, and tolerance. Eligible initiatives include workshops, community events, citizen dialogues, and anti-discrimination campaigns. Interested parties can submit project proposals to [email protected].
The alliance brings together civil society representatives and municipal authorities, with Caritas leading the 'Partnership for Democracy' in Brandenburg an der Havel. A dedicated Action and Initiative Fund supports projects that align with the initiative's goals. The federal program 'Live Democracy!' supports municipalities committed to fostering an open, diverse, and democratic society.
Dorina Diesing, a 29-year-old coordinator previously working for Bread for the World in Berlin, is leading the initiative. Through local partnerships and collaborative projects, 'Demokratie leben!' aims to strengthen democratic values and civic engagement across Germany.
