BNP candidate’s ‘divine authority’ claim sparks outrage in Chapainawabganj water dispute

A dispute over a large waterbody in Chapainawabganj has escalated after controversial remarks by BNP candidate Aminul Islam. The area, known as Chhota Billa-Bara Billa, spans several mouzas and remains the subject of an ongoing High Court case. Islam’s statements during a recent meeting have now drawn widespread attention.

The conflict centres on Chhota Billa-Bara Billa, a waterbody that brings in substantial annual revenue but has long been marred by irregularities and clashes between local factions. Aminul Islam, the BNP’s nominee for Chapainawabganj-2, addressed the issue at his residence, declaring that his decisions would be final and treated as 'Allah’s command.' He added that any attempts to challenge his authority would fail, as he intended to resolve the dispute 'with a firm hand and proper mindset.'

Later, Islam claimed his words had been twisted, insisting he only sought to restore order among those affected by the conflict. He also predicted the BNP would soon form the government, leaving no room for opposition to his rulings. His remarks, however, triggered criticism on social media, with many questioning their tone and implications.

The waterbody remains tied up in legal proceedings while local tensions persist. Islam’s comments have added another layer to the dispute, drawing both political and public scrutiny. The High Court case continues, with no immediate resolution in sight.
