BNP Gears Up for Elections: Candidate Selection, Alliance Talks Ongoing
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is gearing up for the next national elections. The party has started candidate selection and seat allocation processes, with informal talks ongoing with alliance partners.
BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed confirmed the party's preparations. Ganotontro Moncho has announced candidates for 138 constituencies but has yet to submit its list to the BNP. Some Islamic parties are expected to remain aligned with the BNP, with seat allocation still under discussion.
Meanwhile, BNP's ally Ganatantra Mancha partner Nagarik Oikya has selected candidates for all 300 constituencies and will submit a list to the BNP based on feasibility. The 12-Party Alliance has proposed candidates for 21 seats, Jatiyatabadi Samajbadi Jote for 9 seats, Liberal Democratic Party for 13 seats, Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) for 5 seats, Labour Party for 6 seats, and Nationalist Democratic Movement for 10 seats. Ganoforum has prepared a list of 15 potential candidates for the BNP.
The BNP is considering various factors, including opposition and other parties' potential seat wins, before finalising seat allocations. The party is also conducting motivational exercises within to ensure support for its nominated candidates. The National Parties Association has registered candidate lists with several parties, and the official distribution of seats among allies will be defined post-election.
