Boateng documentary faces backlash as family lawyer slams ‘staged’ scenes

Markus Hennig, the lawyer for Kasia Lenhardt’s family, has publicly criticised the ARD documentary Being Jérôme Boateng. In a YouTube podcast released on 4 December 2025, he called parts of the film 'completely staged and tasteless'. The documentary premiered on ARD in early December, with further broadcasts scheduled on Phoenix from 13 December.

Hennig’s criticism focused on a scene depicting an emotional moment involving Boateng, which he described as manipulative. He also questioned the timing of the documentary’s release, coinciding with new statistics on violence against women. The lawyer argued that the film sent the wrong message about such issues.

The documentary remains available on ARD, with additional airings planned on Phoenix. Hennig’s public stance highlights ongoing concerns about its content and timing. The family, meanwhile, has decided against further comment to protect their privacy.
