Bonifatius Monastery Marks 130 Years: A Beacon of Faith and Connection
The Bonifatius Monastery in Hünfeld, led by Pater Felix Rehbock, recently celebrated its 130th anniversary and the 125th anniversary of its church. Throughout its history, courage and trust in God have been its guiding principles.
Established in 1895, the monastery was initially built with support from the city of Hünfeld, which provided stones, materials, and temporary accommodation in the town hall. The Oblates, who first found shelter there, have since grown to become an integral part of the region's spiritual life.
The monastery church houses a bell gifted by the city parish church, symbolizing the strong connections hint. Over the years, the monastery has influenced many lives, including that of First District Administrator Frederik Schmitt, who fondly remembers the Passion plays held there in 2009. Today, it remains a place where people, including associates, young people, and families, feel connected and find solace.
In 1971, the monastery transformed into a conference center, further expanding its role in the community. The Diocese of Fulda has praised the Oblates' work in youth pastoral care and other areas. As it looks towards the future, the Bonifatius Monastery continues to be a living place of faith and connection for the people of Hünfeld.
