Borbeck Residents Unite for a Stronger Community at Schloss Dialogue
Borbeck residents and stakeholders recently gathered at Schloss Borbeck for an open dialogue event, 'We in District IV – Working Together for a Stronger Community'. The event, held on October 30, 2025, aimed to foster social cohesion and discuss visions for work, leisure, and daily life in the district.
Over 80 attendees, including residents, local government representatives, and community organization members, participated in the event. Muchtar Al Ghusain, Executive Director for Youth, Education, and Culture at the city portal, welcomed everyone and stressed the importance of cooperation and mutual understanding.
Professor Dr. Hermstein delivered a keynote speech exploring the role of local spaces as hubs for collective action and social cohesion. Following this, participants split into two workshop groups to discuss beliefs, attitudes, mindsets, and practical achievements for coexistence in their neighborhoods. The event was organized by the Essen Youth Welfare Office, ISSAB at the University of Duisburg-Essen, and the Integration Department of Diakoniewerk Essen.
Borbeck Advisory Weeks, held monthly, offer further opportunities for direct engagement with representatives from the Youth Welfare Office and the University of Essen. Upcoming Borbeck Advisory Weeks are scheduled for December 9, 2025, January 13, 2026, February 10, 2026, and March 10, 2026.
The 'We in District IV' event successfully brought together Borbeck residents and stakeholders to discuss and plan for a stronger, more cohesive community. Future Borbeck Advisory Weeks will continue this dialogue, fostering direct engagement and collaboration.
