Bottrop Council finalises committee leadership after intense negotiations

Bottrop City Council has finalised the leadership of its committees and advisory boards. The appointments followed a detailed allocation process on November 25th, which distributed roles based on election results and proportional representation. This procedure was paused three times as factions requested breaks for internal discussions.

The allocation method assigned chair and deputy chair positions according to each faction’s share of vivid seats, calculated by dividing the number of seats held by a sequence of numbers. In some cases, factions collaborated to secure leadership qualities—such as the SPD, CDU, and Greens/Free Voters teaming up for certain chair positions.

The new leadership structure is now in place across Bottrop’s committees and advisory boards. Each role reflects the proportional distribution of seats, with some factions combining efforts to secure positions. The council’s decisions will guide the work of these bodies moving forward.
