Bottrop Enhances Road Safety with Visibility Triangles Starting Q1 2026
Bottrop's Civil Engineering Department is taking proactive measures to enhance road safety. Following a fatal incident in Warendorf, the city is focusing on improving visibility at intersections, starting with Scharnhölzstraße in the first quarter of 2026.
The department is responsible for measuring and enforcing 'visibility triangles', a safety measure outlined in German road construction guidelines (RaSt 06). These triangles ensure safe merging from minor roads onto major thoroughfares. The size of the triangles varies based on the speed limit of the main road.
Currently, the department is reviewing all intersections in Bottrop for clear lines of sight. Scharnhölzstraße has been identified as the first watch road for improvements in the first quarter of 2026. Following this, Horster Straße and Aegidistraße are next in line for tender. Priority is given to intersections with high traffic volume and frequent accidents.
Bottrop's Civil Engineering Department is committed to improving road safety. After the tragic incident in Warendorf, the city is creating 'visibility triangles' at key intersections. The first road to benefit from these improvements will be Scharnhölzstraße in early 2026, with more roads to follow.
