BPCL's Former CFO Alleges Corruption and Harassment in Bengaluru After Daughter's Death
K Sivakumar, former finance chief of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), has alleged corruption and harassment in Bengaluru after his daughter's death. The incident has sparked outrage and calls for stronger action against corruption in public offices.
Sivakumar's ordeal began when he had to repeatedly visit the BBMP office to obtain a death certificate for his daughter. Despite paying more than the official fee, he was still asked for extra money. In his LinkedIn post, he accused the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) of demanding bribes and being unresponsive during his time of grief.
The situation worsened when an ambulance driver demanded Rs 5,000 to transport his daughter's body between two hospitals. Police officers also behaved rudely and demanded bribes for handing over copies of the First Information Report and post-mortem documents.
VHP leader Girish Bharadwaj confirmed that Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh had spoken to Sivakumar and assured appropriate action. Sivakumar, who joined BPCL in 1987 and has held several senior roles in finance, including serving as an advisor to the company, hopes that his experience will bring attention to the corruption and harassment faced by citizens in Bengaluru.
