Brandenburg an der Havel joins global fight with first anti-racism event series

The International Weeks Against Racism will run from March 16 to 29 this year. For the first time, Brandenburg an der Havel will host its own dedicated series of events, supported by the Partnership for Democracy. Organisers say the campaign highlights the ongoing fight against discrimination as a key part of democratic values.

The Brandenburg an der Havel programme kicks off on March 19 with a musical evening at Kulturbüro Open Dreams on Mühlentorstraße 2. The following day, the BBAG offices at Gotthardtkirchplatz 10 will hold Together Against Racism, a discussion and empowerment event for people with migration backgrounds.

The series wraps up on March 27 with *Solidarity Makes Us Strong* at the Philipp Müller Clubhouse on Steinstraße 42. Dorina Diesing, coordinator of the Partnership for Democracy, emphasised that tackling racism remains essential to upholding democratic principles. While exact figures on municipal participation over the past five years are not public, involvement has grown noticeably. Groups like the Amadeu Antonio Foundation, Black Lives Matter Germany, and local civil society networks have driven events in major cities such as Berlin, Frankfurt, Cologne, and Munich.

This year's expanded programme in Brandenburg an der Havel reflects wider efforts to engage communities in anti-racism work. The events provide spaces for dialogue, cultural exchange, and collective action. Participation continues to rise as more towns and organisations join the initiative.
