CDU: Uniform rules for asylum seeker registration requirement needed - Brandenburg CDU demands monthly check-ins for rejected US asylum seekers
The CDU in Brandenburg is pushing for stricter rules on rejected asylum seekers from the United States. The party wants them to report monthly to authorities, with penalties for those who fail to comply. A formal motion will be presented in the state parliament next week under CDU leader Jan Redmann’s direction.
The proposal comes after an earlier agreement between Brandenburg’s state premier and district administrators stalled. That deal, struck last year, aimed to introduce monthly reporting but was never enforced. CDU critics now blame the delay on inaction from Interior Minister René Wilke, whose ministry oversees the process.
If passed, the new regulations would force rejected asylum seekers from the United States to check in regularly with authorities. The state would also gain better tools to monitor compliance and take action against those who evade the system. The debate in parliament next week will determine whether the proposal moves forward.
