Brandenburg Greens elect Juliana Meyer as new co-leader amid political struggles

The Green Party in Brandenburg is undergoing changes and positioning itself for the future. Following the resignation of Andrea Lübcke, Juliana Meyer has been elected as the new co-leader. Meanwhile, the party is frustrated with its sidelining in state politics and aims to be a strong opposition force.

The Greens are looking to rebuild after a disappointing 2024 election, where they failed to secure parliamentary seats. Despite this, the party has seen an increase in membership and social media reach. Former lead candidate Benjamin Raschke has pledged to make the Greens a strong opposition outside parliament.

Clemens Rostock, the state party chair, has warned that new elections could be called if the current SPD-BSW coalition remains unstable. A recent poll shows the Greens still at 4 percent, unlikely to enter parliament without a snap election.

Felix Banaszak, co-leader of the federal Green Party, has opened a 'news' office in Brandenburg an der Havel to strengthen the party's presence in the region. Juliana Meyer, from the Cottbus district association, was elected as the new co-leader with roughly 55% of the vote, defeating Svenja Künstler from Potsdam-Mittelmark. Meyer will form the 'party city' leadership with Clemens Rostock.

The Green Party in Brandenburg is facing challenges but is determined to rebuild and become a strong opposition force. With Juliana Meyer as the new co-leader and Felix Banaszak's 'news' office, the party is taking steps to increase its presence and influence in state politics.
