Brandenburg Marks 35 Years of German Reunification with Unity Celebration
Brandenburg an der Havel's cathedral hosted a grand celebration marking the 35th anniversary of German reunification. The event, led by Dr. Michael Kolkmann, president of the Rotary Club Brandenburg, honoured local hero Anna Loos and featured a keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Stephan Bröcker, Berlin's state election commissioner.
The evening began with welcoming remarks from Michael Kolkmann, who stressed the importance of living unity daily. Mayor Steffen Scheller followed, expressing pride in Brandenburg's achievements and emphasizing the significance of democracy and elections.
Pastor Susanne Graap reminded attendees that democracy is both strenuous and fragile. Prof. Dr. Stephan Bröcker, in his keynote speech 'Democracy under scrutiny', delved into the challenges and limits of elections in democratic processes. He was appointed Berlin election commissioner in 2022.
The celebration concluded with the singing of the European and national anthems, accompanied by the Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra. Guests enjoyed waffles and wine as they reflected on the evening's themes.
