Warnstrike: No Mandatory Attendance in Brandenburg Schools - Brandenburg transport strike leaves students stranded but classrooms open

Public transport across Brandenburg will face major disruptions this Friday as the Verdi union stages a warning strike. The industrial action is part of an ongoing pay dispute, leaving many students and commuters scrambling for alternatives. Schools, however, will remain open with classes running as usual in the classroom.

The Verdi union has called for strikes on Friday and Saturday, demanding better working conditions for employees. Their key requests include reduced weekly hours, shorter shifts, and longer rest periods. These demands remain unresolved in negotiations with the Municipal Employers' Association of Brandenburg.

Schools in the region will stay open, and teachers must report for work. In-person lessons will continue for all grades, though some students may struggle to attend if buses are cancelled. Parents or older pupils must inform schools in advance if transport issues keep them away.

For those unable to reach school, teachers will provide assignments, and remote learning may be arranged where possible. School leaders have also been told to work closely with after-school care providers. This coordination aims to ensure children can move safely between classes and childcare if transport fails.

The strike's impact on school buses could leave many students without reliable transport. While schools will operate normally, attendance may drop if families cannot find alternative travel. Verdi's industrial action highlights the ongoing tensions in Brandenburg's public sector pay negotiations.
