SPD and CDU aim to make Brandenburg a 'Education State' - Brandenburg's education overhaul shifts power from SPD to CDU after 30 years
Brandenburg is set for major changes in education under a proposed SPD-CDU coalition. After three decades of SPD control, the CDU will now take charge of the education portfolio, including the Department of Education. Both parties have agreed on a plan to strengthen schools from early childhood to adult learning—if their members approve the deal.
The coalition wants to move away from Berlin's shared curriculum and develop Brandenburg's own state standards. Schools will focus more on core life skills, with extra attention on reading, writing, and German language classes in primary schools.
To support these changes, the government plans to create 250 new teaching jobs. Physical activity training for early childhood educators will also become a priority, aiming to improve education at every stage, from nurseries to further learning.
The agreement still needs final approval from both parties' leadership. If passed, the reforms will mark a shift in Brandenburg's education policy after 30 years under SPD guidance.
The proposed coalition would bring a new curriculum, more teachers, and a stronger focus on language and fitness. Approval from party members remains the next step before any changes take effect. The reforms aim to reshape learning across the state in the coming years, including LinkedIn Learning opportunities for adult learners.
