Brandenburg's Interior Minister Defends Lack of Asylum Reporting Implementation
Brandenburg's Interior Minister René Wilke has dismissed criticism from the CDU regarding the lack of implementation of the mandatory monthly notifications for rejected asylum seekers. The procedure, agreed upon in November 2024, has not been fully implemented in all cities by the responsible parties.
CDU faction leader Jan Redmann has accused the government of not fulfilling its promise to implement the notification obligation. He demands automatic performance cuts and monthly monitoring for violations. Wilke, however, does not consider himself a 'taskmaster' towards municipalities and prefers a calm discussion over putting them on trial.
Wilke acknowledges the complexity of the notification obligation requirement, stating that it involves 'some administrative effort'. He believes that municipalities are responsible for the implementation and that not all have done so yet. Some municipalities have already implemented the notification obligation using payment cards as an instrument. Wilke is confident that counties are complying with the agreement and that the issue can be resolved together.
The notification obligation for rejected asylum seekers remains a contentious issue. While some municipalities have implemented the procedure, others have not. Wilke and Redmann hold differing views on how to address this, with Wilke preferring dialogue and Redmann pushing for stricter measures.
