Brandenburg's Landtag goes into Christmas break with Kevin - Brandenburg's Landtag goes into Christmas break with Kevin
Brandenburg’s state parliament closed for the Christmas break in a light-hearted moment. Ulrike Liedtke, the parliament’s president, chose an unusual quote to mark the occasion. Her words came from a well-known 1990s holiday film—Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
On 15 November 2001, Liedtke addressed lawmakers with a line from the movie. The film follows Kevin McCallister, a 10-year-old boy who outsmarts burglars after getting lost in New York. Liedtke’s chosen quote was: 'You can mess with a lot of things, but you can’t mess with kids at Christmas.'
The reference brought a playful tone to the final session before the festive recess. It also highlighted the parliament’s decision to pause proceedings until the new year.
The quote from Home Alone 2 gave the parliament’s adjournment a touch of holiday humour. Lawmakers left for the Christmas break with Liedtke’s festive message still ringing in their ears. The session marked the last official business of the year.
