Manja Schüle is Scientist of the Year - Brandenburg's Manja Schüle Wins Germany's Science Minister of the Year
Manja Schüle, Brandenburg's Minister of Culture and Science, has been named Science Minister of the Year in a nationwide poll. The award follows years of investment in higher education and research under her leadership. Over 2,200 members of the German Association of University Professors and Lecturers took part in the online vote.
Schüle has served as Brandenburg's science minister since 2019. During this time, she oversaw a rise in student enrolment and secured funding for university medicine in Cottbus. Her efforts also helped attract major investments, including plans by SAP co-founder Hasso Plattner to build a new university campus in Potsdam and expand the Hasso Plattner Institute.
This is the first time Schüle has topped the survey, having previously ranked third in 2024. She expressed gratitude for the recognition and promised to continue supporting researchers in Brandenburg. The award ceremony will take place at the German Science Gala in Berlin on March 23, 2026.
The poll results highlight Schüle's growing influence in German science policy. Her work has strengthened research infrastructure in Brandenburg and positioned her as a potential successor to State Premier Dietmar Woidke. The award reflects her achievements in expanding higher education and securing key investments.
