Brandenburg's outgoing coalition reflects on a year of vague achievements

Brandenburg's outgoing SPD-BSW coalition has reflected on its year in power. Minister-President Dietmar Woidke, Agriculture Minister Hanka Mittelstädt (SPD), and outgoing Social Affairs Minister Britta Müller (non-partisan) released statements on their achievements. Their claims come as a new CDU-led coalition begins to take shape in the state. The coalition governed Brandenburg from late 2019 until December 2020. Throughout this period, tensions between the SPD and BSW grew increasingly visible. No interim review of their work was ever presented to the public.

In their retrospective, the ministers pointed to a few key actions. Britta Müller highlighted replacing Wittstock's hospital with an outpatient clinic as a major accomplishment. They also claimed credit for drafting a state budget and attracting new businesses. However, their statements lacked specific details, and no figures or concrete outcomes were provided. While new business settlements were mentioned, the ministers did not address the closures and job losses that also occurred under their leadership. Their overall assessment remained broad, with few measurable results outlined.

The SPD-BSW coalition's time in office ended without a formal evaluation of its policies. As Brandenburg moves toward a new government, the outgoing ministers' vague claims leave questions about their actual impact. The incoming CDU-led coalition will now take charge of the state's direction.
