Constitutional Protection Helps 14 Far-Right Extremists Leave Scene - Brandenburg’s right-wing extremist numbers hit record high in 2024
Brandenburg has recorded its highest-ever number of right-wing extremists in 2024. Official figures show 3,650 individuals were identified, a near 20% rise from the previous year. Meanwhile, the state’s intelligence agency continues efforts to help extremists leave the scene through its wageMUT program.
The wageMUT initiative was launched three years ago to support people breaking away from right-wing ideologies. It currently assists 14 individuals aged between 15 and over 60, including members of violent subcultures, the Reichsbürger movement, and political parties. Participants receive guidance to build independent lives free from extremism and hatred.
Data reveals that four in ten right-wing extremists in Brandenburg are classified as prone to violence. Despite this, the program focuses on individual cases rather than specific groups. No organisations are publicly linked to the scheme, which operates directly with those seeking to exit extremist environments. The rise in extremist numbers marks a new peak for the state. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the individuals involved or the specific risks they pose.
The wageMUT program remains a key tool in Brandenburg’s strategy to counter right-wing radicalisation. With extremist figures climbing, the initiative continues to offer an exit route for those willing to disengage. Officials have not yet announced plans to expand the scheme or adjust its approach.
