Brandenburg’s volunteer fire brigades welcome new chief at annual gathering

Brandenburg an der Havel’s volunteer fire brigades gathered for their Annual General Meeting on Saturday afternoon. The event highlighted key achievements, new leadership, and plans for improved equipment and training. Minister-President Dietmar Woidke and Mayor Steffen Scheller both attended to recognize the brigade’s dedication.

Uwe Hohn, who led the department for 26 months as interim head, stepped down at the meeting. He thanked his team for their cooperation and introduced Sebastian Kalka as his successor. Kalka, who joined the volunteer brigade at nine and became an active responder at 16, will officially take over as fire chief on December 1, 2025.

The Annual General Meeting marked a transition in leadership and set out plans for future improvements. With new equipment, expanded training, and continued recognition of long-serving members, the volunteer fire brigades in Brandenburg an der Havel are preparing for another year of service. The city’s investment and support will help maintain their readiness for emergencies ahead.
