Poll: Majority Dissatisfied with MP Woidke's Work - Brandenburg's Woidke faces voter backlash as approval ratings plummet

Brandenburg's state premier, Dietmar Woidke, is facing growing dissatisfaction among voters. A recent survey shows more residents disapprove of his performance than approve, raising questions about his political future. The shift comes as the region adjusts to a new coalition government formed earlier this year.

In January 2024, Brandenburg's previous SPD/BSW coalition collapsed, forcing a change in leadership. The state then formed a rot-schwarze (SPD-CDU) coalition under Woidke, aiming to restore stability and counter rising political extremism. Despite this fresh start, public trust remains low.

The latest poll reveals that 43% of residents are unhappy with Woidke's work, while only 41% express satisfaction. A significant portion—41%—believe a new election would have been a better solution. Confidence in the new coalition is also weak, with 55% of voters doubting it can rebuild lost trust. Looking ahead, only 27% of respondents support Woidke running again in 2029. Meanwhile, 37% oppose the idea, signalling potential challenges for his political career.

The survey highlights a clear divide in public opinion, with more voters questioning Woidke's leadership than backing it. The new coalition's ability to regain trust will be tested as Brandenburg navigates ongoing political and social pressures. For now, the premier's future remains uncertain amid persistent voter scepticism.
