Brandon man convicted of child sex crimes after 911 call sparks investigation
A 60-year-old Brandon man has been found guilty of multiple sex crimes against a child. Mark Duett was convicted after a jury trial in Rankin County, Mississippi. The charges followed an investigation that began with a 911 call in March 2025.
The case started when Brandon police responded to a 911 report of child abuse on March 14, 2025. Officers launched an investigation after the child revealed abuse spanning three months. During a search of Duett's home, authorities seized electronic devices and other evidence linked to the crimes.
The trial resulted in a conviction on all counts. Duett was found guilty of three charges of sexual battery and two charges of gratification of lust. His sentencing is scheduled for May 11, 2026. This conviction follows another recent case in Rankin County. In March 2026, Paul Clark, 37, was charged with exploitation of children by the same police department.
Duett now awaits sentencing after the jury's unanimous verdict. The evidence collected, including digital material, played a key role in securing the conviction. His case adds to a pattern of child exploitation prosecutions in the area.
