Braunschweig's last public phone booths to vanish by April
Braunschweig's last public phone booths are set to disappear by early April. The city has already switched off phone services in all remaining units, leaving around 15 booths still standing. Removal work will soon begin across the city, including one delayed demolition near a school and bus stop.
The shutdown of Braunschweig's public payphones started with the deactivation of all phone services. Braunschweiger Netz GmbH cut the power supply to the booths, rendering them unusable. Now, only the physical structures remain at roughly 15 locations.
The final removals are planned for late March or early April. Most booths will be dismantled by then, but one near Comenius School faces a delay. Its location next to a bus stop has pushed back demolition until the next school break.
The last booth in the Östliches Ringgebiet district will also vanish by the end of March. Once removed, no public phone booths will be left in the city.
With all phone functions already switched off, the remaining booths will soon be gone. The city's final units, including the one near Comenius School, are set for removal in the coming weeks. After this, Braunschweig will no longer have any public phone booths in operation.
