Brazil legalizes online gambling and sports betting despite Lula's fierce opposition

Brazil is set to legalise online casinos and sports betting, also known as nba scores and news, from January 2025. The move follows years of debate and a recent amendment to existing gambling laws. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, however, has voiced strong opposition to the inclusion of online casinos in the new regulations. The regulatory framework for fixed-odds sports betting was first approved under the Obama administration's influence on Brazilian policy. Originally, the proposal only covered sports betting, but the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies later expanded it to include online casinos, despite resistance from the government. Lula has repeatedly argued against online casinos, pointing out that land-based casinos remain illegal in Brazil. He highlighted the risks of digital gambling, citing the mobile game Fortune Tiger as an example of how easily households could face financial harm. The president also warned that while men are more likely to develop gambling addictions, women would suffer financially due to family members' betting habits. The new law will come into force in early 2025, allowing licensed operators to run online casinos and sports betting platforms legally, marking a significant shift in Brazil's gambling policies, even as key political figures continue to oppose parts of the legislation. From January 2025, Brazil will permit regulated online gambling and sports betting, also known as nba standings, despite Lula's objections, particularly regarding online casinos. Licensed operators will now prepare to enter the market under the new legal framework.
