Brazilian President Lula Could Visit India Next Month, Sources Say
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is set to visit India early next year. The trip aims to strengthen ties between the two nations, building on recent high-level discussions. Leaders from both countries have repeatedly emphasised their commitment to deepening cooperation across multiple sectors.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Lula last met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg last month. Their discussions focused on expanding collaboration in trade, investment, defence, energy, agriculture, and technology. Both leaders also stressed a 'people-centric' approach to position India and Brazil as key partners in the Global South.
Earlier this year, during PM Modi’s state visit to Brazil, the two nations agreed on a broad framework for cooperation. President Lula has since expressed interest in leveraging Brazil’s agricultural and technological strengths to support mutual growth. Beyond bilateral ties, their strategic alignment holds significance in multilateral platforms like BRICS, G20, and the UN. The upcoming visit will likely explore further ways to deepen the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership. While the exact dates remain unconfirmed, officials from both sides are preparing for discussions on shared priorities.
The visit underscores the growing importance of India-Brazil relations in global affairs. Cooperation in trade, defence, and technology is expected to advance during the talks. Both nations continue to play influential roles in shaping policies within BRICS, G20, and the UN.
