"Bremen says Thank You" to 350 Volunteers
Over 350 volunteers from Bremen and Bremerhaven gathered for the annual 'Bremen Says Thank You' reception. The event, hosted at the Senate, recognised their dedication during the Advent season. Comedian and magician Tim Jantzen entertained guests as part of the celebrations.
The reception has been a tradition since 2004, organised jointly by the Social Affairs Authority and the Interior and Sports Department. Volunteers from sports clubs, refugee aid, emergency services, and senior care attended to be honoured for their contributions.
During the evening, volunteers had the chance to speak directly with senators about their work. Ulrich Peschel from Andreas Hospice, Antje Nanninga of the German Red Cross, Rita Behrens from SAEM Theater, and Wolfgang Dietze, who runs bicycle training for elementary schools, shared their experiences with Dr. Claudia Schilling and other officials. Beyond recognition, the Bremen Senate supports volunteers through practical measures. These include accident and liability insurance, as well as the Volunteer Card, which offers discounts and benefits. The Social Affairs Department also funds initiatives like *Learning Through Engagement* and the *Bremen Engagement Guide* to strengthen community involvement.
The event highlighted the essential role volunteers play in the region. With ongoing support from the Senate, their work in education, healthcare, and social services will continue to receive both recognition and resources. The reception closed with appreciation for their year-round commitment.
