Bremen Greens elect new top duo - Bremen’s Green Party elects new leaders to transform transport and education
The Bremen Green Party has elected Josephine Assmus and Marek Helsner as its new leaders, aiming to enhance local public transport, reduce port traffic in Bremerhaven's city center, and safeguard Bremen's steelworks. The party also plans substantial investments in educational facilities.
Assmus, previously a co-chair, won the election with 134 out of 151 votes, while Helsner, who stepped down from the executive board last year, secured 93 out of 164 votes. Elisabeth Laß, a lawyer and former board member, also contested the position, receiving 70 votes. The duo will serve two-year terms at the helm of the eight-member state executive board.
The Greens have approved a motion to invest €2 billion in renovating schools, daycare centers, and universities. Their broader vision includes improving local public transport connections and relieving Bremerhaven's city center from heavy port traffic. Additionally, they aim to secure the future of Bremen's steelworks.
