New Joint Leadership for Bremen's Left: Fischer and Petermann Lead State Association - Bremen's Left Party elects new co-chairs in leadership reshuffle

Bremen's Left Party has chosen a new dual leadership after a recent party congress. Anna Fischer was confirmed as co-chair, while Max Petermann steps into the role alongside her. The vote marks a shift following Christoph Spehr's decision not to seek re-election.

Fischer and Spehr had jointly led the party since 2022. Before that, Spehr held the position alone, taking over from previous co-chairs. Now, Petermann replaces him after securing 77 percent of delegate votes, while Fischer won 78 percent support.

The Left Party remains part of Bremen's ruling coalition, which includes the SPD and the Greens. This alliance has governed the city-state since 2019. In the 2023 state elections, the party won 11.6 percent of the vote, placing fourth.

No immediate policy changes have followed the leadership transition. The new co-chairs will serve until the next state election in 2027, maintaining the party's current direction within the coalition.

The Left Party's new leadership takes office with strong backing from members. Fischer and Petermann will continue working within the existing coalition framework. Their term runs until the 2027 state elections.
