Bremen: Green Party Faction Leader Müller to Become New Environment Senator - Bremen's Senate Shuffles: New Senators Named, Vogt Faces Investigation
Bremen's Senate is set for more changes. Following the resignations of Education Senator Sascha Karolin Aulepp and Interior Senator Ulrich Mäurer, successors have been named. Meanwhile, Economic Affairs Senator Kristina Vogt faces investigation, sparking calls for her resignation.
In August, Education Senator Sascha Karolin Aulepp (SPD) stepped down. Interior Senator Ulrich Mäurer (SPD) will follow by the end of the year. Maike Müller, current leader of the Green Party's parliamentary group, is poised to become the new Environment Senator. Müller's appointment, however, requires formal approval at a Green Party conference scheduled for November 5.
Müller, who has served in the state legislature since 2015 and previously led the Greens from 2011 to 2015, brings extensive experience to the role. Her appointment is part of several recent shifts in Bremen's Senate. Opposition parties have called for Vogt's resignation amid allegations of breach of trust. Vogt, under investigation by Bremen prosecutors, is suspected of improper arrangements in securing a state secretary's early retirement pension.
With Aulepp and Mäurer's successors named and Müller's appointment pending, Bremen's Senate continues to evolve. The investigation into Vogt's actions remains ongoing, with opposition parties pressing for her resignation. The Green Party conference on November 5 will formally decide Müller's new role.
