BSF seizes ₹88.34 lakh worth of smuggled gold near Indo-Bangladesh border
The Border Security Force (BSF) has recently made a significant seizure of gold near the Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB) in North 24-Parganas, West Bengal. The operation, spanning several weeks, resulted in the recovery of a substantial quantity of gold and the arrest of numerous smugglers and couriers.
The BSF, acting on specific intelligence inputs, intercepted a smuggler at the Tarali-1 Border Outpost. The individual, whose identity has not been disclosed, was found in possession of gold biscuits worth approximately Rs 88.34 lakh (around Rs 88.34 million). The gold, weighing 712 grams, was seized from the smuggler.
The smuggler, dressed as a farmer, was apprehended while moving towards the main road from nearby paddy fields. During interrogation, the smuggler confessed that the gold was brought across the border from Bangladesh. The arrested smuggler and the seized gold were subsequently handed over to the concerned authorities for further legal action.
The BSF's successful operation has led to the seizure of gold valued at nearly Rs 88.34 lakh and the arrest of many smugglers and couriers. Valuable information regarding the networks involved in the smuggling has also been gathered, which is expected to aid in disrupting further illicit activities along the IBB.
