BSP’s Sole Bihar Legislator Faces Pressure to Defect from Ruling Coalition
The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Bihar is facing uncertainty over its sole legislator, Satish Kumar Singh. Party leaders claim that Singh has been approached by members of the ruling coalition, urging him to switch sides. The BSP has not named the specific parties or leaders involved in these discussions. Singh won the Ramgarh Assembly seat in Kaimur district during the 2025 elections by just 30 votes, defeating BJP candidate Ashok Kumar Singh. His narrow victory was the BSP’s only success in the state, as the party contested all 243 seats independently but secured just one. If Singh defects, the BSP would lose its only seat in the Bihar Assembly. The party’s past struggles with defections add weight to its current concerns. For now, Singh remains the sole BSP MLA in the state, but his political future is under close watch.
