Bulgarian Driver's Wild 150 km/h Chase Ends in Arrest Near Cologne
A 22-year-old Bulgarian driver was caught speeding recklessly on Luxemburger Straße in Zülpich on March 11. The incident began at around 6:32 p.m. when police noticed the vehicle overtaking dangerously. Officers immediately started a pursuit after the driver ignored traffic rules and sped away at high speed.
The chase started when the driver overtook a police patrol car at excessive speed. Throughout the pursuit, the motorist repeatedly broke the speed limit by large margins. The vehicle even lost traction briefly after sudden, aggressive acceleration.
The driver also ignored safe distances from other cars and illegally overtook despite a clear ban. Police finally managed to stop the car at the intersection of Bundesstraße 477 and Monzenbend in Mechernich-Kommern. Once detained, authorities seized the vehicle and collected a security deposit from the driver.
The driver now faces legal consequences for multiple traffic violations. The seized vehicle remains in police custody, and the security deposit will cover potential fines. Authorities have not released further details on similar cases in North Rhine-Westphalia over the past year.
