The Bundestag is holding its final plenary session of the year, with key debates on startup support and health insurance costs. Lawmakers will also discuss an EU directive aimed at curbing misleading environmental claims in business. The session marks a push to finalise major legislation before the year-end break.

A central focus of the session is a bill designed to boost financing for startups. The draft legislation seeks to attract more private investment and simplify bureaucratic processes for young, fast-growing companies. The governing coalition of CDU/CSU and SPD backs the proposal, alongside positive feedback from Bündnis 90/Die Grünen and parts of the financial sector. However, some critics argue the measures do not go far enough.

Alongside startup funding, lawmakers will vote on a compromise to reduce costs for statutory health insurance providers. The agreement aims to prevent further rises in supplementary premiums by 2026. This follows ongoing concerns about rising healthcare expenses for policyholders. The session will also address an EU directive targeting unfair competition. The debate centres on stricter rules against misleading environmental claims, ensuring businesses cannot misrepresent their sustainability efforts.

The Bundestag’s decisions will shape support for startups and healthcare costs in the coming years. If passed, the startup bill could ease funding challenges, while the health insurance compromise may stabilise premiums. The EU directive discussion reflects broader efforts to tighten regulations on greenwashing in business.
