Bundestag Tightens Discipline Rules, AfD Nominates New Vice President Candidate
The Bundestag has introduced new rules to maintain order and discipline among its members. Fines have been increased, and new procedures for sanctions and absences have been implemented. Meanwhile, the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party has nominated Gerold Otten as their candidate for Bundestag Vice President following the defeat of Malte Kaufmann.
Members of the Bundestag now face stricter penalties for absenteeism and misconduct. Missing an entire session day without excuse will incur a 300 euro fine. Repeat offenders or those disrupting sessions with three warnings will also be fined or expelled. Additionally, MPs will lose 200 euros from their cost allowance for each roll-call vote missed.
The decision to impose these sanctions lies with Bundestag President Julia Klöckner or her representatives, or the entire Bundestag presidency. The fine for serious misconduct has been doubled to 2,000 euros for a first offense and increased to 4,000 euros for repeat offenses.
In other news, the AfD party has nominated Gerold Otten as their candidate for Bundestag Vice President. This comes after their previous candidate, Malte Kaufmann, was not elected, receiving only 153 yes votes, 414 no votes, and 12 abstentions.
The Bundestag's new rules aim to ensure better attendance and behaviour among its members, with increased fines and stricter penalties. Meanwhile, the AfD party has put forward a new candidate for Bundestag Vice President following the defeat of their previous nominee.
