Burabay’s toilet troubles persist despite millions spent on new facilities

Tourists visiting Burabay have long faced issues with non-functional toilets in the recreational areas. In response, KazAvtoZhol installed new roadside facilities in 2020, and Burabay National Park has recently opened a year-round public toilet. However, the condition of these facilities remains a concern.

In 2020, KazAvtoZhol invested 23 million tenge to install new roadside toilets, some of which are along the Astana–Shchuchinsk route in Akmola Region. There are 28 roadside toilets along the Astana–Burabay highway, with KazAvtoZhol responsible for their maintenance. Despite these efforts, tourists continue to report issues with non-functional toilets.

Marat Akhmetzhanov, the akim of Akmola Region, has personally inspected the condition of these roadside facilities. He emotionally responded to questions about the poor state of these facilities. Unfortunately, specific details about measures taken to improve the situation since 2020 are not publicly available.

While KazAvtoZhol has made efforts to improve roadside toilet conditions, with new installations in 2020, and Burabay National Park has opened a year-round public toilet, tourists still face issues with non-functional toilets along the Astana–Burabay highway. Further action is needed to ensure these facilities are well-maintained and operational for visitors.
