Burien Councilmember Alex Andrade challenges Rep. Mia Gregerson in 2026 race

Alex Andrade, a Burien City Councilmember, has announced her run for the Washington State House of Representatives. She will challenge incumbent Rep. Mia Gregerson in the 33rd Legislative District, Position 2. The election is set for either August 4 or November 3, with candidate filings due by May 8, 2026.

Andrade brings a background as a small business owner, community volunteer, and the first Latina and LGBTQ+ member on Burien's council. Her campaign will focus on public safety, local business support, and tackling homelessness, behavioural health, and addiction issues.

Andrade was elected to the Burien City Council in 2024, with her term running until 2027. Washington law permits her to hold both offices unless a conflict arises between the roles. She has also served on regional boards and local committees, including those addressing immigrant affairs and animal welfare.

Her campaign emphasises collaboration with residents, businesses, and community groups to find practical solutions for south King County. Andrade aims to bring a city-level perspective to Olympia, ensuring state policies meet the needs of local communities. As of now, no other candidates have officially registered for the election in the 33rd Legislative District. Gregerson, who has held the seat since 2013, will face Andrade in the upcoming vote.

The race will decide who represents the 33rd District in the state legislature. Andrade's platform centres on addressing key local challenges, from public safety to economic support. Voters will choose between her and Gregerson in the autumn or late summer election.
