Burlington Residents Demand Transparency in Bateman Centre Costs

Burlington resident Caren has expressed concerns about the lack of transparency regarding the costs of converting Bateman High School into the Bateman Community Centre. She initially asked Mayor Marianne Meed Ward for the figures on September 22, 2025, but has yet to receive a response as of October 16, 2025.

Caren believes that Mayor Meed Ward and the city council have not been forthcoming with information about the project's expenses. She has not been provided with the details she requested, leading her to question the transparency of the process.

Paul Sharman, another resident, has shared that a report on the Bateman costs was completed. He learned this from a fellow resident who attended the Ward 5 meeting on October 2, 2025. However, the report's details have not been made publicly available. When asked, Mayor Meed Ward did not have the figures at her disposal and promised to provide them later.

The conversion of Bateman High School into the Bateman Community Centre cost the city of Burlington $2.4 million. Despite this information being available, Caren has not received a response from Mayor Meed Ward regarding the costs, raising concerns about transparency and communication within the city.
